In the Spirit of Jules Verne, a celebratory, escorted overland journey along the legendary route of the Central Kingdom Express travelling by rail from London to the Land of Far Cathay

Unwinding in his comfortable hotel room in San Francisco, the man switched on the TV. The screen lit up to the loud sound of bagpipes, the train buff was looking at the familiar platforms of Victoria Station. Leaving London's Victoria Station to the accompaniment of a Highland Pipe Band in ceremonial uniform were 30 determined travellers, the evening news on this day, the 28th February 1979, broadcast the first ever Jules Verne departure of the 'Central Kingdom Express a 7,000 mile, 42-day rail journey from London to Hong Kong.

Today we are delighted to present an exclusive departure of our 'Central Kingdom Express.' This legendary expedition from London to Hong Kong is a dream of many people and a journey of a lifetime, a chance to experience a real connection between the continents and the great cultures of the world. It is unquestionably one of the world's unique great railway journeys and one we are proud to operate as a celebration of our 40th anniversary.

The tour departs from London by Eurostar to Paris, onward by rail to Berlin, Warsaw and Moscow on scheduled trains, then across Siberia by special train with private sleeping compartments, travelling to Ulan Bator in Mongolia. We continue in a southerly direction across the steppe by scheduled train, in first class carriages, to Beijing and onward through China in high speed trains to Xian and Shanghai, finishing our journey in cosmopolitan Hong Kong.
