History and hospitality, souks and citadels, windswept moonscapes and wonderful monuments meet in famously friendly Jordan; home to desert dunes in sunset hues, the salt-dense depths of the Dead Sea and the soaring walls of pink rock Petra.
Exciting, intriguing, adventurous, and immersive, tours in Jordan are journeys through time and legends. From amazing landscapes to awe-inspiring landmarks, the country encompasses Roman ruins and religious sites, red sand deserts and the Red Sea shore.
While the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth, is the highlight of Jordan’s geology; Petra is the jewel in its architectural crown. “A rose-red city, half as old as time”, it was a secret seen only by Bedouins for six centuries, but is well known now as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.
Jules Verne offers a choice of tour lengths, from a short break to in-depth discovery, to match your focus and fit your available holiday time.
Our short stay explores four sites in four nights, yet, far from feeling ‘whistle-stop’, the tour is unhurried, with time to stroll or simply stand and stare. Centred in the south, it starts with sea air and a sunset cruise in Aqaba; visits the Crusader Castle of Shobak enroute to the treasures of Petra; and includes a desert-camp lunch in windswept Wadi Rum.
A seven-night tour of Jordan’s highlights teams Petra’s fantastic Street of Façades with biblical sites, Bedouin camps, Byzantine and Roman relics. Covering the western corridor from north to south, with visits to ancient Jerash, Bethany’s baptism pools, and the mosaics of Madaba, it adds the opportunity to float in the Dead Sea, and to delve into the Red Sea on the Yellow Submarine.
With nine nights of discovery, the journey meanders through Jordan’s natural, religious, and ancient landmarks to add the ‘Desert Castles’ of Umayyad caliphs, where T.E. Lawrence took refuge; and the capital, Amman, its citadel crowning the highest of the city’s seven hills with temple and palace ruins.
And the twelve-night tour combines Jordan and Israel in a tour of two halves, three creeds, and 2,000 years of history. From the alleys of Old Jaffa to views from Mount Carmel, and visits to Nazareth and Jerusalem, the tour crosses over to Jordan at the Red Sea, returning north through its celebrated sites.
Weatherwise, Jordan is a year-round destination. With hot winds sometimes blowing in from the south, and scarce rainfall (about 4”/10cm annually) restricted to the winter months and north-western reaches, the Jordan Valley generally enjoys a comfortable sub-tropical climate. Average temperatures range from a pleasantly warm 20° between December and February, to 28° in the balmy spring and autumn months, and 35-40° from June to September.
A collage of haunting history, colourful culture, sacred sites, and natural wonders, Jordan is a memory-making mix of exotic experiences, from sailing to see a sub-marine world, to sampling the mud and mineral spas of the Dead Sea; crossing the desert wilds in a 4x4 to see Wadi Rum’s ‘Seven Pillars of Wisdom’; or viewing the sights of Petra by soft-focus candlelight. Our small-group tours are collated to cover our customers’ interests and the country’s variety, and will entertain adults of all ages with an open and curious mind.
