Venice from the Water - View from the Inside

We embarked on the intimate MS Michelangelo for our 4-night adventure. After settling into our cabin we were greeted by our UK Tour Manager for our welcome drinks party.

The wonderful Doges Palace is a short walk from our vessel; the majestic Gothic style palace sprinkled with gold leaf and well restored paintings is a main focal point of Venice with the view of the famous ‘bridge of sighs’. After our guided tour we relaxed in St. Marks Square at Café Florian which is considered as the oldest café in Europe.

From the vessel we travelled by private boat to Murano and Burano; two islands with different specialist trades. In Murano we visited a glass factory where a glass master demonstrated how they create glorious glass ornaments. We then visited Burano famous for its lace making, as well as being named one of the most colourful cities in the world.

By private boat we travelled to explore the authentic wonders of Venice. We visited an elaborate mask factory where we experienced a workshop by a talented mask manufacturer. We learnt how masks are made as well as what they symbolise. A short walk to the Gondola factory we discovered the extensive process used to create the fine gondolas of Venice.

We enjoyed a lunchtime cruise on the Northern Lagoon followed by free time; we opted to cruise the Grand Canal by vaporetto to take in amazing views.

As we sailed to the fishing town of Chioggia, we watched the beautiful scenery pass us by from the sun deck

Upon arrival we were escorted by private coach to nearby Padua where we visited Basilica di Sant’Antonio and enjoyed a guided walking tour of the city. Arriving back in San Basilio, we spent our final evening on board enjoying a gala dinner.

There’s something extremely charming about Venice; whether it’s the Basilica di San Marco located in the heart of the Piazza San Marco, or the Rialto Bridge, there is so much history to be seen on this magical little island.
