Malangen - 2 nights
Tromsø - 1 night
A spectacular short stay in and around the Arctic capital of Tromsø, this is one of the best locations for the Northern Lights. Steeped in myth and legend the Arctic region of Norway offers dramatic scenery, colourful ports and the Aurora Borealis (“nopencil can draw it, no colours can paint it, and no words can describe it in all its magnificence”).
Tromsø was the starting point of Amundsen’s and Nansen’s polar expeditions and has a fascinating Polar Museum. Not only is Tromsø the largest town north of the Arctic Circle, it also has a unique history that includes hunting in the Arctic Ocean for walrus and polar bears, the transporting of logs from Russian rivers, the Pomor trade, coal mining and sealing. The battle to survive in the hard but naturally resource rich far north of Norway provided hard earned experiences that, more recently, have turned Tromsø into a research and education centre.
Malangen Resort is well away from light pollution and is ideal for viewing the Northern Lights as well as a great base forwinter activities and offering spectacular views of mountains and fjords.
