Princely Treasures on the Elbe

A river journey from Prague to Berlin visiting Dresden, Meissen and Potsdam - exclusive to Jules Verne

The Elbe attracts interest as a waterway connecting states that historically were independent - each at times rising to greatness whilst maintaining their own treasures. Dresden, the capital of Saxony, is now restored as one of Germany's most beautiful cities, revealing the art collection of the legendary Green Vaults. Fine porcelain is a theme at Meissen, the first in Europe to obtain the secret of the 'white gold' from China.

Wittenberg was the residence of the Great Elector, Frederic the Wise, but its fame derives from the nailing of 95 'theses' to the castle church door by Martin Luther in 1517 heralding the Reformation. 2017 marks the 500th anniversary of this event. At royal Potsdam visit Sanssouci, Frederick the Great's Summer Palace and Cecilienhof, site of the 1945 Potsdam conference.

Our cruise starts on the river Vltava in Prague, capital of Bohemia, whose glorious skyline of domes and spires is best viewed from the river. The best known of Smetana's works is the cycle of six symphonic poems entitled 'Ma Vlast' (My Country) of which 'Moldau' (River Vltava) is the most popular.
