An upgraded vessel for a cruise along the quiet rivers, lakes and canals between Moscow and St. Petersburg, visiting historic Uglich, St. Cyril’s Monastery and magnificent Kizhi Island
Days 1 - 2 Moscow
Day 3 Uglich
Day 4 Kirillov
Day 5 Kizhi Island
Day 6 Mandrogi / Lake Onega
Days 7 - 9 St. Petersburg
Day 10 Return flight
Following our customer requests we have upgraded our cruise vessel for 2022 to the Russian 5-star MS Rostropovich for a cruise from St. Petersburg to Moscow. Both cities are linked as rivals in history as Moscow, the capital of Russia until 1712 when Tsar Peter the Great moved his capital to newly-created St. Petersburg, did not regain its status as capital until 1918.
Calls will be made at historic cities such as Uglich, founded by merchants in 1148 on the banks of the Volga, Goritsy, a peaceful typical Russian farming village and Kizhi Island in Lake Onega. The island reveals the magnificent Church of the Transfiguration with its 22 shimmering grey domes. As we navigate the Neva, Svir and Volga rivers, lakes Ladoga and Onega, the White Lake, Rybinsk Reservoir and Moscow/Volga canals, and pass through several locks, the ‘real’ Russia is revealed.
The intricate system of waterways has a beauty that is hard to describe. Serene, peaceful and timeless with silver birch and pine forests, calm flowing water and spectacular sunsets.
