Formed from volcanic activity, the nine Azores islands rise, largely untouched, from the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. On this seven-night tour, you'll visit four of the most enchanting isles, taking in their extraordinary landscapes and Portuguese culture with an expert guide to show you the highlights.
You'll start on the island of Terceira, where volcanic natural pools, tumbling mountains and atmospheric caves meet the UNESCO-listed Angra do Heroísmo, the island's capital. From here, travel to Pico Island, the home of Portugal’s highest mountain. Explore its majestic coastline and UNESCO-listed Landscape of Vineyards, as you take in views of the spectacular Lagoa do Capitão. Learn more about its whaling history, before a day touring Faial Island – known for its vast Caldeira crater and the dramatic Capelinhos Volcano. If time allows, venture out on a whale-watching trip to see these majestic creatures in their natural habitat.
End your tour with two days on Sao Miguel Island, where you’ll explore the surreal Furnas Valley, home to steaming hot springs, erupting geysers and boiling calderas. Take a dip in the thermal pools of Terra Nostra Park, explore the cascading waterfalls and fragrant cedar forests of Nordeste, and admire the aqua-marine crater lake of Lagoa do Fogo, as you take in the unique, otherworldly glory of this intriguing part of the world.
The order in which the islands are visited is subject to change depending on flight schedules.
