A week at a historic hotel in the Classic Resort of Montecatini, a beautiful spa town well-located for visits to Florence, Lucca and Pistoia
Montecatini - 7 nights
Montecatini Terme is an elegant and historical spa town set amidst green Tuscan hills. Famed for its 'Liberty' style buildings, this flamboyant architecture defined the town's heyday when visitors included Puccini, Rossini, Mascagni, Strauss and Caruso. The cultural life and musical activities ensured an air of exclusivity prevailed.
From 1898, Giuseppe Verdi spent 19 consecutive summers drawing inspiration from the beautiful formal gardens, wide avenues and thermal spas. But Tuscany is intrinsically linked with the Middle Ages and high above stands the medieval Borgo of Montecatini Alto reached by funicular railway.
In less than an hour frequent trains connect Montecatini with historic city states and Renaissance towns from Florence and Pisa to the lesser known but equally rewarding Lucca, Pistoia, Prato and even to coastal Viareggio. Montecatini has a wide selection of bars, restaurants and shops. There are eleven spas offering a full range of thermal treatments and a programme of open air concerts.
