This brilliant tour in Zimbabwe and Botswana is bookended by one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, the Victoria Falls, twice as wide and twice as deep as Niagara, where 600 million litres of water per-minute crash over the Zambezi cataract. From here we drive to Botswana’s Chobe National Park. Not the biggest but considered to be one of the best in Africa, the award-winning park, known as “the land of giants”, has the world’s largest population of elephants. The wild and wonderful Okavango Delta is the setting for the Dinare concession, at the edge of Moremi National Park. The first reserve in Africa to be established by local people, to preserve the wildlife in their ancestral lands, this paradise is visited by kingfishers, copper-tailed coucals, hornbills and hamerkops; its land-based animals including hippos and elephant herds, plains game and predatory big cats, and both Black and White rhino. Combining land-based game drives with ‘mokoro’ canoe safaris, and optional helicopter flights, the tour is a tale of two seasons, the lush landscapes of January to May, and the dry May to October, when animals gather at water resources in Chobe and the Delta.
Some travel is on unmade, bumpy roads and it is sometimes necessary to ‘climb’ into the safari vehicle.
A luggage allowance of 20 kg per person in soft or small bags is applicable for internal flights.
