Visit the splendid Roman sites of Tunisia, including Dougga, Uthina and El Djem, plus the holy city of Kairouan and ancient Carthage
5 November 2022
Tunis - 4 nights
Sousse - 3 nights
Now a suburb of Tunis, Carthage was one of the great cities of antiquity, which thrived from the 8th century BC until the Romans finally razed it in 146 BC. Julius Caesar founded a provincial capital here and during the 3rd and 4th centuries its university was the centre for the founders of early Christian thought.
Venture behind the glorious beaches and hotel complexes to discover a land rich in the remains of Roman cities such as the vast and elegant Dougga, the ‘Holy City’ of Kairouan.
Marvel at Islamic architecture throughout the tour which also reveals Phoenician, Carthaginian, Roman, Byzantine, Arab, Berber and French influences.
Sousse, one of Tunisia’s most popular resorts is the perfect destination to use as a base for sightseeing and for relaxation as the tour culminates. Located on the coast with endless stretches of beach, the town’s museum is a close second to the Bardo in Tunis, both boasting an impressive collection of mosaics.
