Step into historic Marrakech with a stay at the traditional Angsana Riad Blanc inside the old medina in Marrakech
The word ‘riad’ originally denoted, in classical Arabic, a ‘garden’ and came to describe an urban home with an Andalusian or Moorish patio garden. Today’s definition is accommodation of traditional character in converted town houses, where rooms look to the interior patio.
Whilst most riads are individually owned and operated, sometimes resulting in varying standards, Riad Blanc belongs to the Angsana Riads Collection, itself part of the prestigious Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts group, well known for its luxury hotels.
Riad Blanc has become a favourite for VJV guests, who are now its best customers. Riad Blanc is located in the medina close to Dar Si Said Museum and 10 minutes’ walk from Djemma el-Fna Square. In fact the spirit of Marrakech lies within the ‘VJV Riad’, in contrast to large hotels less conveniently located in the ‘Nouvelle Ville’.
Marrakech is a fascinating destination with a low cost of living. As well as reasonably priced food and drink, the city offers a whole range of exotic bargains in the medina. Founded in the 11th century, Marrakech grew rich on trade in gold and ivory culminating in its recognition as the capital of an empire stretching from Toledo to Senegal.
