THE SEARCH FOR EL DORADO

Colombia is where colonial meets contemporary offering an exciting array of places to visit revealing diverse culture, history and natural beauty

After years of turbulence, Colombia is now firmly on the map! One of South America’s most rewarding and diverse countries. Colonial cities, Andean landscape, verdant coffee regions and Pacific and Caribbean coasts.

Bogotá is set on a high plateau at the country’s heart and surrounded by towering Andean peaks. Its Gold Museum is considered the most impressive in the Americas, housing the famous Muisca raft. This beautifully crafted artefact represents the El Dorado ceremony and supports a claim that the legendary ‘Lost City’, which has eluded explorers for centuries, was located close by.

Cartagena is the jewel in Colombia’s crown. Founded in 1953 as a port it is today one of the most complete examples of a Spanish colonial walled city in the world. Perfectly preserved, and a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1984.

The Colombian people are among the warmest and most welcoming of South America, quick to dispel any negative stereotype that may linger from the past.
