SOLO GROUP DEPARTURE
Explore Ancient Roman cities, Crusader castles and Byzantine churches with a choice of hotel accommodation in Kyrenia
A lunch at Kyrenia Harbour, a special dinner at Bellapais Abbey and a lunch by the beach at Salamis.
Throughout the millennia the island of Cyprus has been of great political importance and was invaded many times. Romans, Persians, Crusaders and Venetians all left their legacy on the island. Currently divided following the Turkish invasion of 1974 and with numerous failed attempts at reunification Cyprus nevertheless remains one of the Mediterranean’s most popular islands.
The ancient sites of the self-declared Turkish republic of Northern Cyprus include the Roman port of Salamis, the Persian palace of Vouni and Greek Soli. Medieval Cyprus is represented by Crusader castles, a Venetian castle picturesquely situated at the end of the harbour and the pretty ruins of the Abbey of Bellapais.
An included excursion programme visits the ‘classic’ sites in the less developed northern part of the island whilst being comfortably based in your chosen hotel for a seven night stay. Kyrenia town offers a range of restaurants to dine in and sample local specialities such as kofte, kleftiko and borek.
On Days 2 & 6 visits to the castles involve steep climbs with many steps and uneven ground.
