This informing, entertaining, and eye-opening tour combines the Red Sea’s remarkable marine life with visits to ancient wonders and astonishing landscapes. Sailing from the shores of Sharm El-Sheikh, where we stroll in the souk and go glass-bottom boating, the ship cruises to Aqaba. A full day excursion explores awe-inspiring Petra, the ’rose-red city, half as old as time’. With its temples, tombs, caves and corridors camouflaged in desert canyons, the gargantuan site was a secret seen only by Bedouins for six centuries but is known now as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. A relaxing day afloat brings you back to Egypt to see the great monuments of ancient Thebes, four thousand years old, UNESCO protected, and lining both banks of the Nile with a magnificent ‘museum’ of grandeur and artistry; and to visit the 6th-century St. Catherine’s Monastery on Mount Sinai, a sacred and spiritual place, steeped in biblical legend.

Day 2

Morning at leisure in Sharm el-Sheikh, hemming the turquoise waters of the Red Sea. An afternoon excursion includes a float on a glass-bottom boat, to view the colourful marine life, and a walk through the town to the souk’s stalls of spices and street food. Cast-off in the late afternoon to cruise past the scenic Sinai Peninsula, believed to be the site where the Ten Commandments were given by God to Moses.

Day 3

A day spent relaxing on a beach or at a hotel on the Red Sea or join an optional full day excursion (£165; pre-bookable only) which takes you (4hrs each way) by road to the ancient city of Thebes, now legendary Luxor, known as ‘the world’s greatest open-air museum’. In the atmospheric west-bank Valley of the Kings, view the huge Colossi of Memnon and, among the 60+ tombs of the pharaohs, enter three of the royal burial chambers. Cross the Nile to visit exquisite east-bank Karnak, its acres of temples, courts, and colonnades linked to Luxor Temple by the two-mile Avenue of Sphinxes. Return to the ship in Hurghada and cruise through the night.

Day 4

Enjoy the scenery and the ship’s facilities on a full day sailing. Sit back on the sundeck, before this evening’s Gala Dinner.

Day 5

Early morning excursion to the Orthodox monastery of St. Catherine, the world’s oldest continuously inhabited Christian abbey. At the foot of Mt. Sinai, sacred to the Muslim and Jewish religions, it is the site of the biblical Burning Bush. Cruise to Aqaba.

Day 6

Full day excursion to Petra, the legendary City of Stone, carved out of the sandstone cliffs over 2,000 years ago. A guided tour takes you through The Siq approach to the magnificent Treasury, the tomb-mansions forming the Street of Façades, and the 1st-century Nabataean Theatre, seating 8,000 spectators in its rock-hewn semi-circle. Return to the ship, as the vessel retraces its route southward.

Morning at leisure in Aqaba. Cruise to Sharm el-Sheikh.
