SS Misr Vessel

Set sail on the journey of a lifetime on the SS Misr vessel. Constructed in 1918 by the Royal Navy and converted for King Farouk I of Egypt, the magnificent steamer tells tales rich in history. Misr translates to “the Kingdom of Egypt” and its décor is certainly true to its heritage, with public rooms and cabins exquisitely decorated in traditional colours and styles. The 5-star SS Misr cruise boat usually travels by steam power and the original steam engines can be viewed by those who travel onboard.

Where does the SS Misr vessel go?

Our SS Misr cruises journey to some of the most popular destinations and hidden gems along the iconic River Nile. You can enjoy a real taste of the culture and heritage in this magical country as you sail past the Valley of the Kings down the Western Desert. Many of our Egypt river cruises travel to Luxor, Cairo, Kom Ombo and Aswan – depending on the tour you choose. Or enjoy a long cruise visit to Amarna, Denderah, Abydos, Beni Hassan with The Original Nile by Royal Steamer cruise.

What excursions are there during SS Misr river cruises?

Our Nile cruises on the SS Misr allow you to explore the true treasures of this magical country. Which of our tours you choose will determine the sights, sounds and smells you discover. Typically, you will explore the famous Pyramids, temples and tombs where ancient Egypt comes to life, learning about the hieroglyphs that were used as early as 3,000 B.C. You may also visit the High Dam with views of Lake Nasser and travel to the famous Philae Temple. Some of our Egypt river cruises have optional tours of Cairo where you can meander through the lively bazaars at Khan el-Khalili, and visit the Citadel and Egyptian Museum.

What accommodation can I expect on board?

Some 207 ft. in length, the SS Misr Royal Steamer offers luxury cabins where you can relax and unwind after a day of exploration. They have been expertly designed to offer the ultimate comfort, with spacious interiors and deluxe fixtures and fittings. There are 24 air-conditioned cabins and suites on board the SS Misr vessel, all with en-suite marble-floored bathrooms and full-size bathtubs, hairdryers, mini-bars, LCD TVs and a safety deposit box. And, perhaps the most exquisite are the private balconies that each cabin enjoys – with glass doors opening out onto fantastic views of the River Nile.

What facilities are there on the SS Misr?

The SS Misr vessel has luxury facilities throughout that will ensure your entire experience is nothing short of exceptional. There’s a lower shaded sun deck with wicker chairs perfect for reading, as well as an upper deck with sunbeds, a bar and swimming pool.

Take in views of the Nile in the main restaurant on the upper deck, where gourmet dishes are served on china. Enjoy a refreshing pre- or post-dinner drink at the lounge bars where there are comfortable sofas to sink into. There’s also free, unlimited WiFi on our SS Misr cruises.
