The voyage of the RV Amazon Star takes us through the remote rainforest of the Peruvian jungle combining the comfort and elegance of a first class river vessel with the experience of an expeditionary cruise of discovery. In one of the most culturally and environmentally diverse countries on earth, you will discover one of these last great unexplored regions of the world, the Peruvian Amazon. Travel deep into the protected Pacaya-Samiria Reserve getting unrivalled access to the Peruvian rainforest’s most pristine areas and the opportunity to experience the abundant wildlife and natural beauty of Amazonia, learning about her ecosystems, botany, wildlife habitats and cultural tradition.
Here in the secluded waters, beyond the confluence of the Ucayali and Maranon Rivers, the greatest recorded number of primate species in the ‘New World’ are to be found, together with thousands of colourful birds, the pink and grey dolphins and an exotic profusion of lush tropical flora and fauna.

Day 1 Fly from Gatwick to Lima. Transfer to the Casa Andina for a one night stay.
Day 2 Take a morning flight to Iquitos, gateway to the Peruvian Amazon. City tour on arrival to include; the Museum of Indigenous Cultures, Casa Morey and CREA Manatee Rescue Centre. Continue to the RV Amazon Star for embarkation. Sail upstream along the Amazon River. (B, D)
Day 3 There is the opportunity for birding from the Bar Deck for early risers and after breakfast our exploration of the Amazon River begins. Board the motor launches for exploration on the Yarapa River (Black water tributary of the Ucayali River). (B, L, D)
Day 4 Look for wildlife from the Bar Deck followed by a river exploration of Yanallpa Creek by motor launch, before breakfast. Visit a local village and school with the possibility of local handicraft shopping. Afternoon lecture on Pacaya Samiria National Reserve by the on-board Naturalist. Evening excursion on Dorado Creek. Day 5 Exploration of the Pacaya River in search of red howler monkeys and other species of primate. Afternoon lecture: Source of the Amazon. Travel by launch to explore the Yahuarcocha Lake and see Giant Water Lilies. (B, L, D)
Day 6 After breakfast explore the market at Nauta City and a local market. On board lecture, exploration along the Pawachiro Creek, on the Marañón River inside the Pacaya Samirira. (B, L, D)
Day 7 Explore the market at Nauta City before breakfast . Take a nature walk on Terra Firma Forest at Casual. An opportunity for swimming in the Pucate River at the National Reserve. (B, L, D)
Day 8 Enjoy an exploration of the Yanayacu River, including a picnic breakfast and wildlife observation. In the afternoon you can participate in a cooking class on-board before our last boat ride on the Amazon and a sundowner. (B, L, D)
Day 9 Disembarkation at Iquitos, transfer for your flight to Lima and overnight at the Casa Adina. (B)
Day 10 Full day at leisure for independent exploration. Transfer to the airport for the evening flight to London. (B)
Day 11 Arrive London Gatwick.
Excursions are by motor launch or on foot,they will be over uneven ground and with some incline, a reasonable level of mobility is required.
Groups will be divided for sightseeing. The cruise vessel takes a maximum of 31 passengers.

Day 6 Morning at leisure, time to ascend to the site once more for independent exploration. Return by rail and road to Cuzco. Overnight at the Sonesta. (B)
Day 7 Travel via Lima to Iquitos to join your Amazon Cruise. (B)
