Day 1 Fly overnight from London Heathrow via Bogotá to Quito (2,850 metres).
Day 2 Transfer to 4-star Wyndham Garden Hotel for two nights.
Day 3 Tour of Quito, the convent of America, explores the Spanish colonial churches and palaces of Quito's well-preserved historic centre. Part walking and part panoramic drive, the tour includes a visit to the Intiñan Museum and the Equator monument. (B)
Day 4 Visit the Antisana Natural Reserve to enjoy the beautiful paramo flowers, rich bird life and perhaps even see the Andean Condor. Continue to Riobamba, crossing the majestic Avenue of the Volcanoes with volcanic peaks like Cotopaxi or Chimborazo. Overnight at the 3-star Hosteria Andaluza. (B, D)
Day 5 Travel to Alausi for the round-trip journey along the legendary 'Devil's Nose' by this spectacular train route. Continue by road to Cuenca, visiting the Inca ruins of Ingapirca, the most important monument of pre-Spanish culture in Ecuador. Spend two nights at the 4-star El Dorado Hotel. (B, D)
Day 6 Cuenca, the centre of art, ceramics and panama hats with its 19th century architecture. The tour includes the Todos los Santos ruins, the flower market, the main square and the cathedral. (B)
Day 7 Travel to Guayaquil (4-5 hrs), via the National Park El Cajas. Walking tour of Guayaquil, taking in the Parque Simón Bolívar with its cathedral, the Governor's Palace and the beautiful Malecón. Overnight at the 4-star Hotel Unipark. (B)
Day 8 Fly to the Galapagos (Santa Cruz). Transfer to the 3-star Hotel Silberstein in Puerto Ayora for three nights. Visit the Charles Darwin Research Centre, stroll among a cactus forest and observe endemic land birds and giant tortoises. (B, L, D)
Days 9 & 10 Includes two full-day island visits to North Seymour, a small flat island surrounded by low cliffs, South Plaza, an uplifted slab of sea floor or Bartolomé, characterised by a high volcanic crater. Enjoy impressive views, spotting sea lions, iguanas, blue-footed boobies, frigate birds and penguins. (B, L, D)
Day 11 Fly overnight via Guayaquil or Quito and Bogotá to London Heathrow. (B)
Day 12 Arrive London Heathrow.
Island visits (Days 9 & 10) are subject to National Park regulations which can determine that alternative islands may be visited and timings adjusted.
