BRAZIL EXPLORER

Discover the abundant wildlife of the Amazonian rainforest and waterways, the wetlands of the remote Pantanal in search of the jaguar, ending at Rio and the stupendous Iguassu Falls

Think of Brazil and one thinks of the Amazon, the vast river which dissects the north of the country. The Amazon is far more than just a river, it is a huge area of rainforest and waterways covering several of Brazil’s states stretching from its mouth at the Atlantic all the way to the Peruvian, Colombian and Bolivian borders. It has an unparalleled biodiversity. The region is home to about 2.5 million insect species and some 2,000 birds and mammals. Among the largest predatory creatures are the black caiman, jaguar, cougar, and anaconda.

Whilst the Amazon is the focus of Brazilian Ecotourism, the Pantanal is where the wildlife is best seen. This vast tropical wetland spans 75,000 square miles, boasts some of the greatest biodiversity in the world and is home to a fantastic array of wildlife including caimans and anacondas, rare species such as bob-cats, and over 650 species of birds. It is also the best place to spot wild jaguars and the capybara – the world’s largest rodent!
