The Golden Road to Samarkand
This is an experience of a lifetime, and will remain as one of my best-enjoyed "exotic" trips for a long time to come

For anyone wondering whether or not they should go on this tour, have no hesitation. This is a trip with so many different aspects. If you are interested in Islamic architecture, textiles, ceramics, history or just travel for its own sake, this is the one for you. We were extremely fortunate to have the services of Viktorya, an excellent guide with a vast store of information at her fingertips, and shared with us as we encountered the various sights and crafts places along the way. She organised excellent meals for us, having worked out our preferences and made sure that we enjoyed a far more varied range of excellent foods than many of us had anticipated with Uzbek cuisine. The programme allowed sufficient time to soak up the atmosphere of these ancient and beautiful cities and desert trading towns, and to learn about culture and history of this fascinating part of the world. A wonderful experience. Throughout the trip we all felt completely safe, hotels were comfortable - if a little "Soviet" in style, in Tashkent - but otherwise they were perfectly fine. This is an experience of a lifetime, and will remain as one of my best-enjoyed "exotic" trips for a long time to come. Thank you to everyone involved in planning and organising this for our group. We had such a fantastic time!
