Return to Istanbul, to explore further its heritage and hidden gems from the Classical, Byzantine and Ottoman eras
Istanbul - 4 nights
Discover the secrets of this magnificent world city and its domains from ancient times to the 20th century.
The Archaeological Museum reveals the sarcophagi of Alexander and Byzantine Emperors, a tablet of the Egypt – Hittite peace treaty and items from Troy, Lycia, Ephesus, Babylon, Pergamon and the Mausoleum of Mausolus.
The Theodosian city walls and Yedicule Castle were founded in the 5th century to withstand Attila the Hun and protected Constantinople for 1,000 years until the Ottomans finally broke through and ended the Byzantine Empire.
Constantinople was in turn the Roman Imperial capital, the head of the Greek Orthodox Church and the Ottoman Caliphate. Explore this unique religious heritage, the hidden gems of ‘Little St. Sophia’, Sokullu Pasha and Semsi Pasha mosques, and church of St. George.
The Pera district was the Genoese quarter and then the embassy quarter, whilst the Asian side contrasts with the European side with its own riches to discover.
