Italian Odyssey

Take an Italian adventure along the Amalfi Coast, amongst the UNESCO listed Aeolian Islands and snow-capped craters to the Land of Cyclops

Italy offers the most amazing experiences in every season, heading to the Amalfi Coast in winter can be a wonderful time of year to explore. Recognised by UNESCO as an outstanding example of Mediterranean landscape, the beauty of the Amalfi Coast is captivating. In the winter you won't have to deal with the crowds, whilst the weather is too chilly for sunbathing, it is somewhat milder than you would expect with temperatures for Amalfi at about 40°F to 55°F. It may be winter but you can expect some fine, crisp, sunny days. Sicily in winter can be a treasure trove, you can explore the cultural and historic sites with fewer visitors and towns such as Taormina are refreshingly free of "tourists". The land of the Cyclops, Sicily, ideally placed at the very heart of the Mediterranean offers a dazzling diversity of landscapes and cultural treasures. The coastline, volcano and mountain scenery makes for a dramatically stunning backdrop. Phoenicians, Cathaginians, Elymians, Romans and Greeks all staked claim to this magnificent Island and have left remnants of bygone civilisations across the island to explore and enjoy.

We begin in Naples and visit Pompeii, arguably Europe's most compelling archaeological site. Sail the Aeolian Islands area, a little piece of paradise rising out of the cobalt-blue seas, off Sicily's north-eastern coast, a UNESCO-protected chain of islands named after the demigod of the winds, Aeolus. Onwards to Mount Etna the realm of Vulan, god of fire, and the home of the one-eyed monster; Cyclops. The bleak lava wilderness at the summit of Etna is one of the most memorable. In complete contrast we cruise to Calabria, at the toe of the boot in the extreme south of Italy - lapped by the splendid crystal-clear lonian and Tyrrhenian Seas before visiting the beguiling and dramtic Amalfi Coast, concluding the cruise with a visit to Capri and AnaCapri.
