A small ship sailing exploring Athens and the jewels of Aegean waters by motor yacht

Birthplace of democracy and the foundation of modern life, Greece has an evocative cultural heritage and complex history. There is no better way to discover the ruins of one of history’s most advanced civilisations than by exploring Athens on foot then weaving between the beautiful Greek islands by private motor yacht.

Discover the Acropolis in Athens, created to celebrate the city at the zenith of its power and explore the islands, from Aegina in the Saronic Islands to the Southern Cyclades for stunning Santorini, a candidate for the lost kingdom of Atlantis, Antiquity’s Sacred Island of Delos, cosmopolitan Mykonos and the Cycladic capital of Syros.

This small ship sailing on the MY Callisto creates a relaxed and intimate atmosphere and allows easy access to secluded bays and shore expeditions without need for tender. It affords the opportunity to explore the sights of antiquity without the crowds or heat of summer.

Day 3 Transfer to Marina Zea and embark on the MY Callisto for four nights. Sail to Aegina Island once a great naval power and capital of Greece for a short time. The stunning island of Santorini reveals white painted villages clinging to volcanic cliffs above black sand beaches. Around 1620 BC a violent eruption caused the centre of the island to collapse into the now-empty caldera, creating the present, crescent-shaped island. Delos, tiny and uninhabited, was birthplace of Apollo and Artemis and contains one of the most important archaeological sites in Greece. A natural insular archaeological site with monumental antiquities from the Archaic, Classical and Hellenistic periods. Optional excursion to this ‘open air museum’. Later sail to contrasting Mykonos with sandy beaches and a cosmopolitan feel.Afternoon to explore, lose yourself in the enchanting warren of bougainvillea lined, narrow pedestrian streets with tiny churches, restaurants, boutiques and two interesting museums. (B, L, D)

Day 6 Sail to Syros, the Cycladic capital and the 'City of Hermes', It grew in importance during the Ottoman period and as a centre for the Latin Church. Lovers of the elusive 'real Greece' concur that the island is a special place and has an architecturally fascinating port.
