Flight - 1 night
With over 7,000 islands the Philippines has much to offer, from the bustling city of Metro Manila to Cebu steeped in Spanish history which has helped to create a unique language and culture. Discover the catholic heritage and natural wonders such as Palawan’s underground caves, Taal Volcano and the famous Chocolate Hills of Bohol.
Colonised by the Spaniard Miguel López de Legazpi in 1571, Manila is one of the oldest cities in the Philippines with landmarks dating back to the 16th century, including the walled city of Intramuros. Within the walls were government buildings, homes, convents, schools and the oldest church, San Augustin – the only building left intact after WWII. Fort Santiago served as the military headquarters and Casa Manila is a mansion with 16th-19th-century furnishings. Rizal Monument is the resting place of the Filipino national hero Dr. Jose Rizal.
The island of Palawan is the largest province with a wide range of natural beauty, from its jungle-clad mountains and underground rivers to its pristine white beaches – it is considered the Philippines’ most environmentally sustainable island.
Locals still like to refer to the island of Bohol as the Republic of Bohol after its short lived independence in the 19th century. Visit the island’s most famous attraction, the ‘Chocolate Hills’, with panoramic views of this unique rolling terrain, and visit a species of tarsier endemic to the Philippines at a sanctuary.
