Day 1 Fly overnight from London Gatwick to Shanghai.
Day 2 Transfer for a three night stay at the 4-star Juss Hengshan Hotel (formerly Regal International East Asia). Explore Shanghai, visiting the old town, Yu Yuan Garden and Shanghai Museum.
Day 3 Visit the Jade Buddha Temple and the Bund. Acrobatic show in the evening. (B, L, D)
Day 4 Optional excursion to Suzhou by rail. Visit the Garden of the Master of Nets, Lingering Garden and explore the ancient streets of Pingjiang, including a short canal cruise and a Chinese lunch. (9 hrs – £125). (B)
Day 5 Fly to Tokyo. Transfer to the 4-star Grand Nikko Daiba for a five night stay. (B)
Day 6 Visit Imperial Palace Plaza, stroll in Asakusa and Nakamise, later visit Edo-Tokyo museum and Ameyako market. (B)
Day 7 Bullet train to Iiyama and onward to Jigokudani Yaen Koen, home to a very special troop of Japanese macaques. Enjoy an Oyaki-making experience and visit the Buddhist Zenkō-ji temple. (B)
Day 8 Optional excursion by coach to Hakone & Mt. Fuji. Enjoy spectacular views, Japanese style lunch, a short cruise on Lake Ashi and a rope way ride to the peak of Mt. Komagatake. Return via Hakone to Ginza. (12 hrs – £115). (B)
Day 9 Optional excursion to Kyoto by bullet train. Visit Fushimi Inari Taisha for Senbon Torii gates, Sanjusangen-do Temple and the World Heritage Site of Kiyomizu-dera. Includes lunch. (12 hrs – £255). (B)
Day 10 Morning at leisure. Overnight return flight via Shanghai. (B)
Day 11 Arrive in the morning at Gatwick.
