With thousands of tropical islands straddling the equator Indonesia is the largest archipelago in the world and is blessed with the most diverse landscape, from tall cloudswept mountains swathed in green rainforest to startling blue seas, large wilderness areas and wildlife sanctuaries.
Yogyakarta is fiercely independent and protective of its customs, still ruled by its sultan, whose Kraton (walled city palace) remains the hub of traditional life.
Borobudur reveals one of the world’s most impressive temples with 504 Buddha statues all in meditative pose. After extensive restoration by UNESCO in the late 20th century it was designated a World Heritage site.
The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park offers some of the most amazing landscapes in Indonesia. It is especially beautiful at sunrise as the mist rolls over the valley and the sun rises behind Bromo Volcano.
Labuan Bajo combines tropical beauty and access to Komodo National Park, home to the famous and fiery Komodo Dragons.
The essence of Bali is more than just a place; it is a mood, an aspiration, a tropical state of mind. Indonesia is an intriguing and captivating land offering some of the last great adventures on earth.
