GRAND TOUR OF CHINA

Adding 2020 departures to discover the distinctive and incomparable aspects of ancient and modern China, the world’s oldest civilisation, from its exotic culture to spectacular scenery and fascinating cities

This complete itinerary visits China’s four corners offering rewarding opportunities for those who wish to involve themselves with the history, culture, diversity and striking landscapes of this vast country. The peaceful gardens and ancient monuments contrast with the modernity of the skyscrapers and the admittedly convenient high speed train
The imposing grandeur of the Forbidden City and Summer Palace, and the mystical symmetry of the Temple of Heaven remain untouched by modernity. Whilst Shanghai’s racy image stems from the 1930s and 40s, the impressive buildings of the Bund are now expanding at an astounding pace.
A feature of the itinerary is the cruise on the Yangtze River, on the prestigious MV Century Paragon, and a visit to the lesser-known gem of Pingyao, with its wealth of historic courtyard houses, shops and temples, surrounded by one of China’s few intact Ming city walls.
Suzhou is renowned for its canals, water gardens and silk production, whilst the West Lake of Hangzhou, with its landscaped island, tea plantations, temples and pavilions is one of China’s best known beauty spots. Former colonial Hong Kong reveals a confusion of towering skyscrapers, enigmatic temples and sweeping bays.
