Now featuring an extra night in the Serengeti, witness the Great Migration from elevated balconies of unique bush rovers, explore Ngorongoro crater and learn about Tanzania’s conservation initiatives and projects of conservationist David Guthrie, who will accompany this special departure

Inspired by Prince William’s visit to Tanzania to raise awareness of the Illegal Wildlife Trade conference and learn more about Tanzania’s conservation work, we have teamed up with our long standing partner, Tent with a View, to combine our Serengeti and the Secret Migration tour with their great knowledge and impact on protection of Tanzania’s wildlife, allowing unrivalled immersion in Tanzania’s animal kingdom and conservation efforts.

Tanzania’s wildlife resources include Africa‘s last intact savanna wilderness ecosystem, the Serengeti, site of the world’s largest terrestrial mammal migration, the highest density of predators in Ngorongoro and of elephants in Tarangire. But Tanzania’s wildlife populations are under threat from poaching and clashes between wildlife and people involved in activities such as farming and mining, as the benefits of wildlife tourism are not shared equally. However, there are some good news as conservation projects have a huge positive impact.

A Tent with a View started in 1995 when friends David Guthrie & Masa Kilanga started their own mobile safari company. David started as a wildlife guide in Selous Game Reserve, later becoming involved in lion research in Selous and founding the endangered green turtle project in Saadani National park which is run from the wildlife research centre at Simply Saadani Camp. He was, with the respected Dr Alfred Kikoti at the forefront of anti-poaching efforts in 2012 when he set up the Tanzania Elephant Protection Society (TEPS). David has worked tirelessly with the Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA) on anti-poaching and set up a task force which was eventually involved in shaping government policy at Tanzania’s Wildlife Division. David featured in the 2013 ground-breaking Nat Geo film ‘Battle for the Elephants’ which focused on the slaughter of Africa’s elephants for their tusks.

These days David does not guide tours as often as he’d like but, with little convincing, he agreed to lead a small group on this one-off Secret Migration itinerary with Jules Verne as we join forces to raise awareness.

We have selected the best season of travel when the bushrovers are located close to the iconic Mara river crossings and included Saadani’s off-the-beaten-track reserve, revealing a white sand beach location unique in East Africa combining marine and mainland flora and fauna, home to the green turtle project led by David Guthrie.
