SPRING SALE - NOW ON

A very special downstream cruise from Aswan to Cairo, this is an exclusive Jules Verne charter of ‘the most luxurious steamship on the Nile’, the SS Misr, combining modern comfort with indulgent elegance, and famous sites with less-visited ancient landmarks

In response to the incredibly high demand for our exclusive charters on this unique vessel, we have secured an additional date for 2024. Sailing from Aswan’s islands to Cairo’s pyramids, via the ‘living museum’ of Luxor, this is a cruise of push-the-boat-out luxury. An unforgettable experience of ancient Egypt with impeccable service, cosseted aboard the royal steamer SS Misr, the former floating palace of King Farouk. Built for the Royal Navy in 1918, and later transformed into a regal vessel for Egypt’s last monarch, the ship was recently restored to its former glory, to be re-launched as an icon of the Nile, from its balconied cabins to the fine restaurant and facilities. This exclusive Jules Verne journey is accompanied by a tour manager/Egyptologist, to brief you on their history and mystery. The cruise begins by Aswan’s High Dam and sails to discoveries at Kom Ombo’s double-deity shrine and Edfu’s Ptolemaic temple; modern Luxor, wrapped around its ancient Theban relics; the temples of Denderah and Abydos, and tombs of Tell el-Amarna, Tuna el-Gebel and Beni Hassan; concluding at Cairo’s iconic Sphinx and including days where you just sit back and relax as you admire the views and experience life on the serene River Nile. Adding a special touch enroute, we take tea at Aswan’s Old Cataract, visit Luxor Temple by night and enjoy a cocktail reception at Luxor’s Winter Palace.

The construction of the Aswan high dam resulted in the flooding of a vast area and a huge operation was mounted by UNESCO in the mid-60s to rescue amongst many other sites the great temple in statues of Ramesses II from the rising waters or what later became known as Lake Nasser, the two immense rock statues of Rameses II and his queen Nefatari were dismantled into over 1000 blocks hand cut from the original rock face and reconstructed some 65 metres above on a rocky outcrop of the mountains which overlooked the Nile at this point.

Luxor Hot Air Balloon Excursion

Take to the skies above Luxor in a hot-air balloon and enjoy panoramic views of the world's greatest open-air museum. Leaving at sunrise, enjoy the tranquillity and beauty of the sun rising over the east bank of the Nile, illuminating the land of the ancient Pharaohs on your scenic flight over Egypt's iconic monuments, this experience promises to be one of the highlights of your journey, as you drift over the Valley of the Kings & Queens, getting a bird’s eye view off the tombs and the Nile delta in a hot air balloon.
