View from the Inside: Egypt Tours / SS Karim

Written by Ceri Parsons, Travel Sales Consultant at Voyages Jules Verne who recently travelled to Egypt and embarked on a Nile River cruise on the SS Karim.

"A Nile river cruise is like taking a step back in time where all your pressures fade away. As you leisurely cruise down the Nile you will see biblical scenes like men riding donkeys along the river bank and women collecting water in their buckets. I was offered an amazing opportunity to sample the delights of the Nile on a historic paddle steamer, the SS Karim.

The temples are another amazing experience, full of history. The guides made this extra special as we were the only ones there most of the time, allowing us time to take wonderful pictures and ask questions. The service of all the guides was impeccable, and as being Egyptologists they have a vast knowledge and have the ability to explain all the technical details and stories behind the carvings. The most breath taking temple would have to be Abu Simbel, this was an amazing experience and certainly somewhere I would re-visit when I return to do another Egypt tour.

The SS Karim is a very charming vessel with 5-star service on board. The size of the vessel makes this experience unique as it's quite intimate, bringing everyone together, both passengers and staff. As one of the few paddle steamers on the Nile, sailing along on the SS Karim is a fascinating experience, we were waved to and watched by passers-by and constantly had photos taken of us cruising along. The SS Karim added that extra special spark to our journey and when we were leaving we felt we weretaking a little piece of Egypt in our hearts". (October 2009).
