    Petra by Night
This exclusive optional arrangement reveals the magical ‘rose red’ city by the light of a thousand candles. Private Reception at Luxor Temple
Those who rediscovered ancient Egypt in the 18th and 19th centuries enjoyed magical overnight stays and this has prompted us to arrange private evening access to the Luxor temple, enhanced by striking illumination, to savour the unique night-time atmosphere. A private reception has been arranged at the temple exclusively for the guests of Voyages Jules Verne. Walk down the illuminated avenue of sphinxes and enjoy a cocktail served by staff in pharaonic uniform at the illuminated Temple before strolling through the temple unimpeded by other visitors. A recording of Verdi’s Aida, once staged in the temple, will provide a musical background to the occasion and local musicians will play the Egyptian ‘takht’ music. This unique arrange is available on the following tours:

    Sorrento Express
For the journey to Pompeii and Herculaneum, Voyages Jules Verne has engaged a private ’old-timer’ train, the 60 year-old-‘Sorrento Express’, with light lunch and refreshments served on board. This is an optional excursion (£50) and prebooking is strongly recommended as places are limited.

    The Houses of Old Damascus
Whilst most Middle Eastern exploration focuses on ancient exteriors, Damascus is a city of ‘hidden palaces, of copses, and gardens, and fountains’. The Damascene houses in the Old City reveal elaborate decoration and hidden courtyards.  Our Syrian representative is involved in the restoration of some of these houses and has arranged a special viewing for guests of Voyages Jules Verne and an evening reception with local delicacies, liberations and music. This exclusive arrangement is available on the following tours:

    SS Karim
Previously retained for private use by the Kings and Presidents of Egypt the SS Karim is now reserved exclusively and very successfully for the guests of Voyages Jules Verne.    Built in Britain in 1917 for the then Sultan of Egypt, Fuad, and titled King after 1922, it was inherited in 1936 by his son Farouk. Following the revolution of 1952 and the subsequent formation of the Arab Republic of Egypt the vessel became government property.  Still powered today by its original steam engine and stern quarter wheel paddles it has been extensively renovated and combines the comforts of the modern era with the images and elegance of a bygone age.  This unique paddle steamer is available of the following tour:
