In past times it was only heroes, scientists and explorers who visited the frozen expanses of the Antarctic - the coldest, windiest, iciest, driest, most barren and remote area in the world. Today, the construction of ships with ice-breaker hulls enable us to explore in some comfort the more accessible areas of the region.
