This innovative arrangement combines historic working railroads, an Arctic watershed island and a remote wilderness retreat in a million-acre game reserve which is home to Black Bears, Moose and Bald Eagles. However, the journey begins at Union Station in downtown Toronto, Canada’s largest city. From here the Ontario Northlander passenger train winds its way north west along Georgian Bay and the Muskoka lakes to Cochrane. From here, the legendary Polar Bear Express train carries passengers to the shores of James Bay and the remote colonial outpost of Moose Factory Island, forever linked with British expansion in North America, the fur trade, fortune hunters and the Hudson Bay Company. The final leg of this journey will travel south on the Algoma Central Railroad, which offers a life-line to far flung communities and services the massive local forest industry. It is one of the world’s few ‘flag stop’ trains where the entire service halts when requested.
