Oldest Living Cities
Staying in historic accommodation and exploring the ‘hidden treasures’ of Syria
Historic Accommodation
Hitherto, it has been difficult to secure adequate accommodation but recent conversions of old houses have opened the possibility of arranging for small groups of Voyages Jules Verne travellers to stay in the Old City of both Damascus and Aleppo.
Hotels are characteristic and facilities are limited, but include a restaurant, courtyard and air-conditioned rooms with private facilities and satellite TV. Hotels utilised include Oriental, Pasha, Shahbandar Palace and Zeituna in Damascus and the Yasmeen, Jdayde, Beit Marrash, Beit Salahieh, Carlton, Orient House and Dar Zamaria in Aleppo. At a supplement, upgrade to suites at the Old City hotels and there is also the option to stay in Aleppo at the luxurious Mansouriya Palace suite hotel, that has received much coverage as one of the best such hotels in the Middle East.
