Combining one of the ‘New 7 Wonders of the World’ with a Red Sea sojourn

 
 

In brief:

Petra - 3 nights. Aqaba - 4 nights.

Day 1 Fly from London Gatwick to Aqaba and transfer to Petra for three nights at your chosen hotel.

Day 2 A full-day excursion to the Nabataean city of Petra. On foot through the ‘Siq’ to the Treasury, then to the Street of Façades, the Theatre, Royal Tombs, Colonnaded Street, Byzantine church, the Temple, Monumental Arch, Qasr el-Bint Faroun and perhaps the climb up to the Monastery, el-Deir.

Day 3 Return to Petra for a morning walk up to the High Place of Sacrifice. Afternoon free. A drink at the Nabataean Cave Bar has been arranged. Optional ‘Petra by Night’ excursion.

Day 4An optional morning excursion to Little Petra and Shobak Castle. Continue to Aqaba for four nights at your chosen hotel. Optional afternoon excursion on the ‘Neptune Submarine’: a ‘see-through’ semi-submersible viewing the marine splendours of the Red Sea and Coral Reserve.

Day 5 Day at leisure.

Day 6 Optional Red Sea cruise to Pharaoh’s Island including barbecue lunch, tour of the fort and the option to snorkel.

Day 7 Optional afternoon trip to Wadi Rum includes a 90-minute 4-wheel drive and dinner in a Bedouin tent with local musicians.

Day 8 Return flight.

Extension – Tala Bay

A week at Tala Bay, a new marina and coastal resort adjoining Aqaba’s coral reef and 20 minutes’ drive from central Aqaba. Stay at the new 5-star Hotel Radisson Blu resort with restaurants, shuttle bus to Aqaba, private beach, pools, gym and 336 air-conditioned rooms with private facilities, side-sea view, balcony, satellite TV, mini-bar and hairdryer (breakfast daily).
