In Brief

Petra - 3 nights. Amman - 2 nights. Aqaba - 2 nights.

Itinerary 1 (until May 2011)

Day 1
Fly from London Gatwick to Aqaba and transfer to Petra for three nights.

Day 2 Visit the Nabataean city of Petra. On foot through the ‘Siq’ to the Treasury, then to the Street of Façades, the Theatre, Royal Tombs, Colonnaded Street, Byzantine church, the Temple, Monumental Arch and Qasr el-Bint Faroun. In the afternoon time to explore independently (perhaps climb up to the Monastery, el-Deir). Petra camp dinner (Oct/Nov).

Day 3 An optional excursion to Little Petra or re-visit Petra independently. A drink at the Nabataean Cave Bar has also been arranged. Optional ‘Petra by Night’ excursion (Feb-May).

Day 4 Visit Kerak Castle. Travel the King’s Highway to Madaba and Mount Nebo, travelling on to Amman for two nights.

Day 5 A morning visit to the ‘Desert Castles’. Afternoon tour of Amman includes the Citadel and Archaeological Museum.

Day 6 Visit ancient Jerash in the morning, then to the Dead Sea for a swim and lunch. Travel along the scenic Wadi Araba Road (4 hrs) to Tala Bay or Aqaba for two nights.

Day 7 Morning free. An optional excursion to Wadi Rum includes a 90-minute Bedouin jeep drive and dinner in a Bedouin tent with local musicians.

Day 8 An optional morning excursion on the ‘Yellow Submarine’, a ‘see-through’ semi-submersible viewing the Red Sea’s marine splendours and Coral Reserve. Return flight.

Extension - Tala Bay

A week at Tala Bay, a quiet marina and coastal resort adjoining Aqaba’s coral reef and 20 minutes’ drive from central Aqaba. Stay at the new 5-star Mövenpick Tala Bay with shuttle bus to Aqaba, restaurants, bars, pools (heated), jacuzzi, spa, shop, and private beach. 451 air-conditioned rooms with private facilities, hairdryer, safe, mini-bar (complimentary soft drinks), tea/coffee making facilities, satellite TV and balcony/terrace.
