Monday departures (Mumbai to Delhi)

Day 1Fly overnight from London Heathrow to Mumbai.

Day 2 On arrival transfer to the 5-star Trident Bandra Kurla or similar for one night. Afternoon sightseeing includes Prince of Wales Museum, Marine Drive, Chowpatty Beach, Malabar Hill, Dhobi Ghat and the Gateway to India, built to commemorate the visit of King George V.

Day 3 Morning at leisure before an afternoon departure from Mumbai’s historic Victoria Terminus, an extravagant Gothic edifice modelled on St. Pancras. Dinner on board in the luxurious restaurant car.

Day 4 Morning visit to the Ellora Caves where Buddhist, Hindu and Jain temples have been carved from the vertical rock face. Afternoon at leisure with lunch and dinner on board.

Day 5 Morning visit to the Ajanta Caves, masterpieces of Buddhist religious art, set in a deep river canyon. Return to the train for lunch and commence the journey through rural India towards Rajasthan. Dinner on board.

Day 6 Udaipur is arguably Rajasthan’s most picturesque town, famed for its lakes and palaces. Enjoy a cruise on Lake Pichola and sightseeing of the city. Lunch will be served on board and a Gala dinner at the Palace Hotel. The train will travel overnight to Ranthambore.

Day 7 Early morning and afternoon jungle safaris in this quintessential Rajasthani wildlife park, dominated by a 1,000-year-old fort and home to the elusive tiger, followed by high tea at Taj Lodge. Dinner on board.

Day 8 Full-day sightseeing of Jaipur including Amber Fort, lunch at a local palace hotel, the City Palace and Observatory. Dinner on board.

Day 9 Begin the day at Fatehpur Sikri, Akbar’s abandoned city, before continuing to Agra’s Red Fort and the Taj Mahal. Lunch at a city hotel, dinner on board.

Day 10 Arrive in Delhi and disembark from the train. Half-day panoramic tour of Delhi and overnight at Grand Hotel Delhi.

Day 11 Early afternoon flight to London, arriving later the same day.
