Itinerary 1 (Jan-Apr 2012):
Day 1Fly overnight from London Heathrow to Delhi.
Day 2 Morning arrival and transfer to the Royal Plaza (formerly the Ramada Plaza). Afternoon orientation tour of Delhi including Lutyen’s India Gate, Parliament House, Raj Ghat, the Jama Mosque and a drive past the Red Fort.
Day 3 Board the Shatabdi Express to Amritsar (6 hrs) early this morning. Transfer to the Ranjit Svaasa Hotel for overnight. Early evening ‘Changing of the Guard’ ceremony at the India/Pakistan border.
Day 4 Visit the Golden Temple of Amritsar, the most sacred temple for Sikhs, and Jallianwala Bagh, scene of the massacre in 1919. Afternoon drive to scenic Dharamsala (6 hrs / 1,700m) for a two-night stay at the modest but well located Surya Resort.
Day 5 Morning visit to the Tibetan monastery and museums in McLeod Ganj, also known as Upper Dharamsala. Afternoon at leisure.
Day 6 Visit Kangra Fort and museum (see special event opposite). Drive to Shimla (8 hrs) for a three-night stay at the Radisson Hotel, Shimla.
Day 7 Morning tour of Shimla at an altitude of 2,000 metres, including a visit to the Vice Regal Lodge and a stroll along the famous Mall.
Day 8 Enjoy Shimla’s unique atmosphere and spellbinding scenery. Optional excursions to nearby beauty spots are available (with picnic lunch if required – extra charge).
Day 9 Depart from Shimla on the Himalayan Queen ‘Toy Train’ to Solan before continuing to Kalka to join the Shatabdi Express train to Delhi (4 hrs). Dinner will be served on board the train. On arrival transfer to the Royal Plaza for an overnight stay.
Day 10 Fly to London Heathrow arriving later the same day.
