The introduction of direct flights from London to Vietnam now allows this new itinerary utilising their national carrier for all flights at a startlingly low tariff, including Indo-China’s most sought-after destinations in a little under two weeks without the need to backtrack. Indo-China was essentially a French invention but while some vestiges of their colonisation still exist in stylish architecture and wide boulevards, the countries of Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam exude their own character and atmosphere: the serenity of Luang Prabang contrasts sharply with hectic Hanoi and sophisticated Saigon while Siem Reap remains the lively gateway to the magnificent temples of Angkor.
