Laos

In Laos, you often feel as though you're in another time, another world. The landlocked, ancient kingdom of Lan Xang, long remained a well-kept secret. Three-quarters of the inhabitants live along the banks of the Mekong River, its lifeblood. While the river irrigates the rice fields and yields abundant fish, the staple food, it also serves as the main thoroughfare.
