Day 1Fly overnight from London Heathrow to Beijing.
Day 2 Transfer to the 3-star Dong Fang Hotel for three nights.
Day 3 Visit the Forbidden City and Tian An Men Square, then the Summer Palace. Peking Opera performance.
Day 4 Visit the Temple of Heaven and the Great Wall at Mutianyu. Peking Duck dinner.
Day 5 Fly to Xian for two nights at the 4-star Jian Guo Hotel. Visit the Wild Goose Pagoda and City Wall. Special city wall ceremony.
Day 6 Visit the Terracotta Warriors and Great Mosque. Tang Dynasty dinner and show.
Day 7 An early transfer to board the train to Lhasa. Lunch and dinner on board.
Day 8 After breakfast and lunch on board reach Lhasa in the late afternoon. Transfer to the central 3-star Hotel Tangka for three nights.
Day 9 Visit the temple of Jokhang and Barkour Market. Rickshaw ride to view the illuminated Potala Palace.
Day 10 Visit the great Potala Palace, Sera Monastery and the Summer Palace of the Dalai Lama at Norbulingka.
Day 11 Travel to Tsedang, visiting en route the Mindroling Monastery or Gongkar Chode Monastery and a Tibetan family house. In the afternoon, walk up to Yongbulakang Palace and visit Tradruk Monastery. Overnight at the 3-star Hotel Zedang.
Day 12 Fly to Chengdu and overnight at the 4-star Hotel Tianfu Sunshine. Enjoy a leisurely walk along Jinli Street, in ancient times one of the busiest of the commercial boulevards in the kingdom of Shu. Dinner and Sichuan Opera.
Day 13 Morning tour of the Giant Panda Breeding Research Centre. Afternoon flight to Shanghai. Transfer to the 4-star Bund Riverside Hotel for two nights.
Day 14 A full-day tour in Shanghai includes the Jade Buddha Temple, Old Town, Yu Garden, Bund and Nanjing Road. Evening acrobatic show.
Day 15 Transfer to the airport for the return flight, via Beijing.
Travel in China
Our 3 and 4-star hotels generally include a restaurant, bar/coffee shop and English speaking reception staff. Accommodation is in air-conditioned rooms with private facilities, hairdryer, telephone and satellite TV with tea making facilities. Included meals are at either the hotel or in local restaurants and generally offer a selection of Chinese dishes with a drink. When internal flights are during meal times, separate meals will not be provided pre/post flight. Transportation is in private air-conditioned vehicles with local guides accompanying all tours (except on flights).
