Day 1 Fly overnight from London Heathrow to Beijing.
Day 2 Transfer to the 3-star Dong Fang Hotel for three nights.
Day 3 Full-day tour to the Forbidden City, Tian An Men Square and Summer Palace. Peking Opera performance.
Day 4 Visit to the Temple of Heaven and to the Great Wall at Mutianyu. Peking Duck dinner.
Day 5 Fly to Shanghai for three nights at the 4-star Bund Riverside Hotel. Visit the Bund and Nanjing Road. Enjoy a Huangpu River cruise.
Day 6 Visit the Yu Garden, old town area, Jade Buddha Temple and Shanghai Museum with its fine collection of jade, ceramics paintings and calligraphy. Evening Acrobatic show.
Day 7 Free day. Optional day excursion by rail to Suzhou including the Garden of the Master of the Fishing Nets plus the Lingering Garden, a short canal cruise, a silk reeling factory and ancient Pingjiang Street.
Day 8 Return flight via Beijing, reaching London Heathrow later the same day.
Extension – The Terracotta Warriors & Pandas'
Includes three lunches and two dinners.
Day 8 Fly from Shanghai to Xian. Visit the City Wall and stay two nights at the 4-star Jian Guo Hotel.
Day 9 Visit the Terracotta Warriors, Provincial Museum and Small Wild Goose Pagoda. Optional Tang Dynasty show (Mar-Nov, bookable locally).
Day 10 Fly to Chengdu for overnight at the 4-star Hotel Tianfu Sunshine.
Day 11 Morning visit to the Panda Breeding Research Base in Chengdu. Afternoon flight to Beijing for overnight at the 3-star Dong Fang Hotel.
Day 12 Return flight, reaching London Heathrow later the same day.
Travel in China
Our 3 and 4-star hotels generally include a restaurant, bar/coffee shop and English speaking reception staff. Accommodation is in air-conditioned rooms with private facilities, hairdryer, telephone and satellite TV with tea making facilities. Included meals are at either the hotel or in local restaurants and generally offer a selection of Chinese dishes with a drink. When internal flights are during meal times, separate meals will not be provided pre/post flight. Transportation is in private air-conditioned vehicles with local guides accompanying all tours (except on flights).
