It was over 30 years ago that, to the accompaniment of a Highland pipe band, our first group of intrepid travellers embarked from London’s Victoria station on a 42-day, 7,000-mile expedition by rail to Hong Kong. After a gap of several years, we successfully re-introduced this itinerary which retains the essence of the original – the cachet of travelling by train through the heart of Russia and across the expanse of Siberia into Mongolia with only a change of trains at the Mongolia-China border to complete the journey to Beijing.

Whilst in a journey that crosses half the world, the traveller will encounter many contrasts (and sometimes the unexpected), there is certainly no more comfortable or privileged way to travel than by private train. This arrangement thus enables, a leisurely journey visiting some of the less accessible but no less interesting towns of rural Russia and Mongolia.
