4 nights from £575 or 7 nights from £795

The island of Malta – equidistant between Spain and the Holy Land – has been coveted throughout its long history with the first settlers arriving from Sicily around 5300 BC. Phoenicians, ancient Greeks, Romans and Arabs each followed in time leaving their mark. Leased to the Order of St. John, a military order of Knights Hospitallers, in the 16th century, they were in turn evicted by the French, who in turn yielded to the English. Vital to the Allied cause in the Second World War the island received the George Cross, the highest award for civil bravery, in 1942.

The programme of sightseeing follows in the footsteps of the Phoenicians, ancient Greeks, Romans, Knights Hospitaller and British.
