In the Footsteps of St. Francis
Medieval Assisi with day trips by private taxi to Umbrian hill towns

Day 1 Depart from London Stansted to Perugia. Transfer to the Hotel Fontebella. Evening aperitif at the private home of an art collector who will tell the story of St. Francis and accompany guests on excursions throughout their stay.
Day 2 Tour of Assisi visiting the Basilica of St. Francis and associated shrines. Afternoon visit to the picturesque town of Spello with frescoes by Pinturicchio.
Day 3 Visit Le Celle, a Franciscan hermitage founded by St. Francis in 1211, and Cortona, featured in ‘Under the Tuscan Sun’. Take a boat trip across Lake Trasimeno where Hannibal defeated the Romans.
Day 4 Return flight. On the 4-night itinerary, day at leisure with return flight on Day 5.
Special departure – May 4 2012 Calendimaggio Festival
This tour coincides with Assisi's Calendimaggio spring festival, a magnificent spectacle of processions and pageants with participants in medieval costume looking as though they have stepped out of a fresco.

Day 5 Tour of Perugia visiting the underground medieval streets, the National Gallery, the Piazza IV Novembre with the Palazzo dei Priori, the 13th-century Fontana Maggiore and a Roman Mosaic.
Day 6 Visit Orvieto and its Duomo, described as ‘the golden lily of Italian cathedrals’, and the charming town of Todi.
Day 7 Visit Spoleto and its cathedral, with its 12th-century façade and frescoes by Lippi, the Romanesque Churches of Sant’Eufemio and San Gregorio; a 1st-century Roman house and the Ponte delle Torri, a 14th-century bridge spanning a 250-foot ravine.
Day 8 Return Flight.
