Classic Italy by Train
From St. Mark’s to St. Peter’s, from the Grand Canal to the Colosseum

Day 1 Fly from London Gatwick to Venice and transfer to the 4-star Hotel Plaza close to the main railway station at Mestre, for a two-night stay. Frequent trains travel between the mainland and Venice Santa Lucia station, across the lagoon. Journey time approximately 5 minutes, cost €1.50.
Day 2 A half-day walking tour of St. Mark’s Square, view the Bridge of Sighs and visit the Basilica. Afternoon at leisure to explore Venice or take a boat to the lagoon islands of Murano and Burano.
Day 3 A short walk to the station to board the train for Florence. An early afternoon arrival and transfer to Hotel Michelangelo or similar for a three-night stay.
Day 4 A half-day walking tour includes the Piazza Signoria and the Uffizi (timed entrance). Afternoon at leisure.
Day 5 A full day in Florence for private exploration of the historic centre.
Day 6 Depart by train to Rome and a two-night stay at the centrally located Hotel Universo or similar.
Day 7 A morning walking tour includes the Colosseum, the Roman Forum culminating at the Trevi Fountain. Afternoon at leisure to explore the Vatican City and Sistine Chapel.
Day 8 Transfer to Rome airport for the return flight to London Gatwick.
