Day 1 Fly from London Heathrow to Reykjavik (late arrival, first chance to see the Northern Lights!). Two nights at the well-located 4-star Hotel Radisson Blu Saga.
Day 2 A Reykjavik Card is provided for free use of local buses and free entry to the thermal pools and main museums such as the nearby National Museum. Dinner at the Saga’s gourmet restaurant.
Day 3 Golden Circle tour to Gullfoss, Iceland’s mightiest waterfall, the hot spring area dominated by Geysir and Thingvellir National Park. Overnight at Hotel Eldhestar.
Day 4 Visit Vik with its cliffs and black beach, Systrafoss waterfall and Dverghamrar ‘Dwarf Cliffs’. Two nights at Fosshotel Skaftafell, within walking distance of a glacial spur. Travel to Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon hoping to view the Northern Lights.
Day 5 Visit Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon and the ‘iceberg beach’. Hike to Svartifoss waterfall (about 1½ hrs), weather permitting, Sjónarsker viewpoint and Svínafellsjökull glacier tongue. Enjoy a lobster dinner.
Day 6 Visit Reynisfjara black volcanic beach, Skógar Folk Museum and Skógafoss waterfall. Two nights at Hotel Hekla, an excellent location for viewing the Northern Lights.
Day 7 Visit Hjálparfoss waterfall, the turf building and fishermens’ homes. Visit Eyrarbakki’s Maritime Museum and the small town of Hveragerði and its Hot Spring Garden.
Day 8 Visit Reykjanes peninsula and the ‘bridge over the Eurasian/North American continents’. Continue to the Blue Lagoon with the opportunity to swim in the warm mineral-rich waters (extra charge), walk around this unique location and visit the café, restaurant or shop. Continue to the airport for the return flight.
