Graham Green’s first successful novel was entitled ‘Stamboul Train’, later filmed as ‘Orient Express’ on which train both this and Agatha Christie’s ‘Murder on the Orient Express’ were set. Istanbul or Constantinople was considered the gateway to the Orient and these novels recount tales of high-class courtesans, seductive spies, secret messengers and assassins.
Voyages Jules Verne has been involved with special train journeys for 30 years and indeed regular passengers may remember similar journeys some years back. So we are delighted to present a ‘one-off’ opportunity to join a special VJV journey from Istanbul to Budapest through Bulgaria and Serbia, for which we have been fortunate to secure a new train, the Danube Express, at an exceptional tariff.
VJV Special Event - Dining in historic settings
An ‘Ottoman’ candlelit dinner in the vaulted dining room of an ancient 6th-century cistern and a dinner with Gypsy music at a historic restaurant.
