Kyrenia, North Cyprus

Ancient Roman cities, Crusader castles, Byzantine churches and atmospheric abbeys

7 nights from £575

Throughout the millennia the island of Cyprus has been of great political importance, was invaded many times and the Romans, Persians, Crusaders and Venetians all left their legacy on the island. The sites of ancient Cyprus include the Roman port of Salamis, the Persian palace of Vouni and Greek Soli. Medieval Cyprus is represented by crusader castles, a Venetian castle picturesquely situated at the end of the harbour and the pretty ruins of the Abbey of Bellapais. An included excursion programme visits many of the main sites and optional excursions include a visit to the stunningly located crusader castle of Kantara and the ancient sites of Vouni and Soli visiting Guzelyurt en route.
