Advent in Salzburg

A stay in Salzburg with its glorious alpine setting and including a ‘Mozart Dinner’

3 nights from £547

Just over 250 years ago one of the world’s greatest musicians was born in Salzburg. Mozart followed in the footsteps of his father, Leopold, as a court musician in the service of the Archbishop of Salzburg, performing regularly in the city’s churches and palaces. Our arrangement includes a dinner and concert in the Peterskeller, a former monastery (AD 696) whose restaurant is as old as the cloister. A ticket for entrance to his birthplace and his residence is included. The recently revived West End production of the ‘Sound of Music’ is a reminder of more contemporary links-the original story and the filming both took place in Salzburg and the lakes.

Advent and Christmas is a charming time to visit Salzburg, surrounded by snow-covered mountains. Around the cathedral, the Christmas market tempts with honeycake, special breads, roasted chestnuts, mulled wine and gingerbread, dried flowers and hand-painted decorations.
