Nicaragua

The conquistadores reached Nicaragua in the 16th century but this fascinating country is still largely undiscovered by modern-day Europeans. The geographical centre is the impressive Lago de Nicaragua, dominated by the islands of Omtepe and two volcanic peaks. Archaeological surveys are still continuing but 73 sites have already been recorded.
